Former German footballer of Ghanaian descent, Gerald Asamoah, has provided life-saving heart surgeries to 27 individuals in Ghana. On November 5, 2024, the ex-Schalke 04 player brought in over 40 medical specialists from Germany to carry out this charitable initiative.
During an interview at the event, Asamoah shared that his inspiration for the project stemmed from a personal experience. He revealed that he once suffered a severe heart condition while playing football, which forced him to retire from the sport. Asamoah vowed to God that if he fully recovered, he would dedicate his efforts to helping others facing similar health challenges.
Reflecting on his journey, Asamoah said, “I thought running a foundation would simply involve funding, but it requires dedicated people. I am fortunate to have a committed team supporting me. This feels like a dream fulfilled.” Reports indicate that the second edition of the project, spearheaded by the Gerald Asamoah Foundation and its partners, spent over €250,000 to assist 27 Ghanaian children with critical heart surgeries.
